On April 12, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:28 p.m. for a lost hiker on the Manana Trail and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:42 p.m. and began a search on foot. The next arriving unit secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a group of three were hiking when one of them, a male in his 60s, was separated from the group and became lost. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel on both the Waimano and Manana Trails to search a larger area. Air 1 located the lost hiker and inserted rescue personnel to the hiker’s location where a medical assessment was conducted to ensure there were no injuries. The hiker was then safely airlifted to the landing zone where care was transferred to the Honolulu Emergency Services Department at 6:13 p.m.
