On April 26, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:56 p.m. to rescue a dog off of the Kuliꞌouꞌou Trail in ꞌĀina Haina and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:07 p.m., established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a black Labrador named Sammie fell off of the trail near the ridgeline. Rescue personnel were inserted to the dog’s location then safely airlifted the dog to the nearby landing zone.
