On April 29, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:05 p.m. and responded to a high rise building fire at 581 Kamoku Street in McCully with 11 units staffed with 43 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 7:08 p.m. to find flames and smoke coming from the 11th floor of the building.
Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an aggressive fire attack and completed a search to confirm no occupants were inside the fire unit. Adjacent units were also searched to ensure there was no fire spread beyond the original fire unit. The building was equipped with fire sprinklers, which were activated, and kept the fire contained until HFD personnel were able to bring the fire under control at 7:27 p.m. and extinguished at 7:28 p.m.
HFD personnel assisted the occupants of the fire unit out of the building then patient care was transferred to an awaiting Emergency Medical Services crew. An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
