On May 8, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:09 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Crater Trail in Hawaiꞌi Kai with 7 units staffed with 22 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:15 a.m. and proceeded up the trail on foot.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 20s became ill and was unable to safely descend the trail on her own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hikers’ location one-third the way up the trail at 10:22 a.m. and conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely escorted down the trail where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 10:51 a.m.
