TWO-ALARM RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN WAIANAE

On May 9, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:09 p.m. and responded to a building fire at 86-352 Pohakea Place in Waianae with 16 units staffed with 52 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:17 p.m. to find a single-story residential structure fully involved with fire, which had spread to the adjacent brush.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, initiated a defensive attack on the structure and an offensive attack on the wildland fire. The homeowner reported that all occupants had safely exited the structure. The half-acre wildland fire was quickly brought under control at 2:37 p.m. and extinguished at 3:50 p.m. The structure fire was extinguished at 5:40 p.m.

The HFD notified the American Red Cross to assist seven displaced residents. The fire remains under investigation to determine the origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
