On May 25, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:02 p.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore of Mokulua Islands in Kaʻōhao with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:09 p.m. to investigate.
It was reported that a 30-foot sailboat was taking on water with four souls on board, none of whom reported any injuries. The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department (HOSD) arrived patient side and assisted the boat to a safe location near Mokulua Islands to anchor and remove the passengers. HOSD brought all passengers safely back to the Lanikai Boat Ramp while HFD assisted with securing the boat. All of the passengers declined medical assistance.
