On May 30, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:25 p.m. and responded to hikers in distress on the Mariner’s Ridge Trail in Hawaiꞌi Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:41 p.m. and established command. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a 19-year-old and 20-year-old male hikers were unable to descend the trail on their own. Air 1 inserted rescue personnel to the hikers’ location then safely airlifted them to the landing zone where medical care was declined at 9:46 p.m.
