SWIMMERS RESCUED OFF OF MAKAPUU BEACH WAIMANALO

On June 16, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:02 p.m. and responded to swimmers in distress outside Makapu’u Beach Park in Waimanalo with six units staffed by 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 7:12 p.m., established command, and began searching for the missing swimmers.

It was reported that two males, in their teens and early 20s were swimming and were swept out by the current. HFD’s A01 was able to locate the swimmers using night-vision-goggles and inserted rescue personnel at their location at 8:45 p.m. Both swimmers were escorted back to shore where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 8:59 p.m.
