On Thursday, June 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:20 a.m., and responded to a carbon dioxide gas leak at 256 Ku’ulei Road in Kailua with three units, including a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) unit staffed with 11 personnel.
The first unit arrived on scene at 5:31 a.m. and confirmed a carbon dioxide leak in the store. The leak was secured but all occupants were evacuated for safety reasons until Hazmat personnel were able conduct air sampling to ensure there were no elevated readings. The store was reopened once it was deemed safe to do so.
