On July 5, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:10 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Nuuanu Trail in Nuuanu with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:20 a.m. and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.
It was reported that a female in her 20s was hiking with a party of four for about one hour when she sustained a lower leg injury and could not continue on her own. Rescuers were able to locate them and arrive at her side at 9:54 a.m. They performed a medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. Air 1 arrived and safely airlifted her to the nearby landing zone, where her medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 10:14 a.m. The rest of her hiking party descended the trail on their own.
