WILDLAND FIRE 75% CONTAINED IN MĀꞌILI

On July 6, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:33 p.m. for a wildland fire near 87-253 Paakea Road in Māꞌili and initially responded with three units staffed with nine personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 2:42 p.m., reported an active wildland fire, requested additional resources and commenced an offensive fire attack.

At 3:28 p.m., the Incident Commander ordered the evacuation of neighborhoods mauka of Kulaaupuni Road. The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and Department of Emergency Management (DEM) quickly and effectively carried out the evacuation.

Two homes were damaged by fire, but many others were saved thanks to the quick and tireless efforts of the HFD and the Federal Fire Department. More details will be shared once a thorough damage assessment is completed.

The fire was reported as 20% contained at 4:43 p.m., 75% contained at 7:34 p.m.

A total of 29 HFD units, along with additional units from the Federal Fire Department, worked diligently to contain the fire. These efforts were closely coordinated with our City and County of Honolulu emergency response partners, including Emergency Medical Services, HPD, and DEM.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
