On July 13, 2025 the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:44 p.m. and responded to a missing hiker at the Lāꞌie Falls Trail in Lāꞌie with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived at 9:58 p.m., gathered information on the missing hiker and established command.
It was reported that a male in his 20s was missing after becoming separated from his hiking party. His companions attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful and subsequently notified emergency services.
Air 1 deployed rescue personnel at the top of the trail while the first-arriving ground crew began ascending the trail on foot.
Air 1 located the missing hiker, who was using a light source to signal search and rescue personnel. The aircraft landed at the hiker’s location and safely airlifted him to a nearby landing zone.
The hiker was uninjured and declined medical treatment at approximately 11:30 p.m.
