HIKER RESCUED OFF OF PUꞌU ꞌŌHIꞌA TRAIL IN TANTALUS

On July 24, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:14 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker near the Puꞌu ꞌŌhiꞌa Trail in Tantalus with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:23 p.m., established command, and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a female hiker in her 30s became lost and was unable to find her way back to the trail. Air 1 inserted a rescue personnel onto the trail both above and below the hiker’s geolocation to begin a ground search. The first rescue person arrived at the hiker’s location at 2:15 p.m. A medical assessment was conducted to confirm the hiker was uninjured before hiking her along steep terrain to a remote landing zone and safely airlifting her to the Mānoa District Park landing zone at 4:18 p.m. Upon arrival at the landing zone, the hiker declined medical attention.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
