INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM A MOUNTAINTOP ABOVE KALAHEO HILLS IN KAILUA

On July 26, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:17 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the mountaintop above Kalaheo Hills in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 16 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:25 p.m. and drove up the access road to begin the search on foot. An additional unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a air operations.

It was reported that an adult female was hiking with a partner for approximately four hours, became ill, and could not continue on her own. Air 1 located them on the mountaintop and inserted HFD rescuer personnel nearby. Rescue personnel arrived to the hiker’s location at 1:50 p.m., performed a medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. After hoisting her onboard, Air 1 transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 2:01 p.m. Air 1 returned to retrieve the second hiker in the party and transported him safely to the landing zone as well.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries to them.
