On July 26, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:19 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Chinaman’s Hat Island in Kaneohe Bay with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:28 a.m. and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a 59-year-old male was hiking with a group and fainted about halfway up to the top of the island. Air 1 located them on the island and inserted HFD rescue personnel nearby. Rescue personnel then hiked to the hiker’s location, performed a medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared him for extraction. Air 1 returned to the location and airlifted the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 11:16 a.m.
