HIKER RESCUED OFF OF THE MAKAPUU LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On July 28, 2025 the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:36 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress at the Makapuu Tidepools in Hawaii Kai with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived at 9:48 a.m. and ascended the trail using the Rapid Response Vehicle. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a male in his 20s suffered an injury near the tidepools off of the Makapuu Lighthouse Trail and was unable to return to the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:05 a.m.,conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was, then, safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 10:47 a.m.

HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.
