The first unit arrived on scene at 7:19 p.m., established command and gathered information. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a 19-year-old male hiker had been hiking for approximately six hours and was unable to descend the trail, even with assistance of the three others in his hiking party. HFD personnel were inserted near the hikers’ location and patient contact was made at 7:58 p.m. HFD personnel conducted a medical assessment before assisting the hiker to an open area where he could be extracted. The hiker was safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone and medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 8:58 p.m. The remainder of the hiking party hiked out on their own.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
