WILDLAND FIRE IN KUNIA 60% CONTAINED

On August 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:03 p.m. for a wildland fire near Kunia Camp on Kunia Road and initially responded with three units staffed with nine personnel. The first unit arrived at the scene at 12:14 p.m., reported an active wildland fire, requested additional resources and commenced an offensive fire attack.

At 2:07 p.m., the Incident Commander ordered the evacuation of Kunia Camp and Head Start. The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and Department of Emergency Management (DEM) quickly and effectively carried out the evacuation.

The fire was reported as 60% contained at 6:37 p.m. with 600 acres involved in fire.

A total of 21 HFD units, along with ground units from the Federal Fire Department and Department of Transportation, worked diligently to contain the fire. The HFD, Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Army and Army National Guard provided six air assets that focused water drops on the mauka side of the fire until sundown. These efforts were closely coordinated with our City and County of Honolulu emergency response partners, including Emergency Medical Services, HPD, and DEM.

No injuries were reported and no structures were impacted. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

HFD’s drone team will provide fire watch throughout the evening.
