UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) resumed fire fighting operations near the Kunia Village area this afternoon alongside state and federal partners. A total of six air assets from the HFD, Department of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and Army National Guard (ANG) focused water drops on the mauka side of the fire while ground units from the HFD and DOFAW addressed hot spots from the base of the mountain to Kunia Road. The State Department of Transportation also provided two water tanker trucks that efficiently refilled HFD tankers that shuttled water to fire engines. Fire fighting operations were suspended due to darkness at 7:09 p.m.
The fire was reported as 75% contained.
No injuries were reported and no structures were impacted. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported. An HFD unit will provide fire watch throughout the evening.
An investigation to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates is still ongoing. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
