RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KAHALA

On August 24, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:34 a.m. and responded to a reported tree fire at 3986 Kaualio Place in Kahala with one unit staffed with four personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:41 a.m. to find a working fire in the rear of an abandoned, single-story residential structure, with the doors and windows secured with sheets of plywood. Additional resources were requested and a total of 11 units staffed with 42 personnel responded to this incident.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and gained entry through several boarded-up doors to initiate a fire attack. Once entry was made, hoarding conditions were encountered. A combination of hoarding conditions and a partially collapsed roof made fire fighting operations challenging. The fire was brought under control at 4:39 a.m. and fully extinguished at 6:10 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
