On August 30, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:35 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker off of the Pali Notches Trail in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:48 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 20s was holding onto a rope that snapped, resulting in a reported 150-foot fall. Air 1 inserted a rescue person to the hiker’s location at 5:13 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support before safely airlifting him to the landing zone.
Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 5:50 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
