LOST HIKER RESCUED FROM A MOUNTAINTOP NEAR KOLEKOLE PASS IN WAHIAWA

On August 31, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:51 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker on the mountaintop near Kolekole Pass in Wahiawa with 4 units staffed with 12 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:04 p.m. and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare air operations.

It was reported that a 27-year-old female was hiking alone for approximately two and one-half hours and became lost on a mountain ridge with a sheer cliff. Air 1 located the hiker and lowered HFD rescue personnel nearby. They arrived at her side at 5:23 p.m., performed a medical assessment, and prepared her for extraction. After hoisting her safely onboard, Air 1 transported the hiker to the landing zone, where she declined any medical care at 5:38 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injury.
