On September 6, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:34 p.m. and responded to hikers in distress off of the Puꞌu Manamana Trail in Kaꞌaꞌawa with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 7:55 p.m. and secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that three uninjured hikers in their 20s were at the top of the ridge, in a precarious location, and unable to safely find their way back to the trail. Air 1 inserted HFD personnel at the hikers’ location where they conducted a medical assessment and confirmed the hikers were uninjured. The hikers were safely hoisted into Air 1, one-by-one, then airlifted to the landing zone where medical care was declined.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
