HIKER RESCUED OFF OF THE MAKAPUU LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On August 7, 2025 the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:11 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress at the Makapuu Trail in Hawaii Kai with 7 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived at 10:22 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot.

It was reported that a male in his 30s became ill near the tidepools and was unable to return back to the trail on his own. The unit on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 10:41 a.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:22 a.m.

HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.
