On September 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:10 a.m. and responded to a sick hiker on the Diamond Head Crater Trail with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:17 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 30s became ill and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 11:36 a.m. where they conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support and packaged the hiker into a rescue litter. Air 1, then, safely airlifted him to the landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 12:15 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
