TWO-ALARM RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KULIOUOU

On September 21, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:33 p.m. for a building fire at 403 Kuliouou Road and responded with 11 units staffed with 43 personnel. While en route to an unrelated medical emergency in a home directly behind the house that was on fire, the responding unit upgraded the incident to a two-alarm fire and requested additional resources. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:38 p.m. to find a medium-sized, single-story residential structure with heavy smoke billowing from the front of the house. The first unit focused on fire control efforts while another unit responded to the medical emergency in the back house.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, used forcible entry tools to gain access to the interior of the house and initiated an aggressive fire attack. The fire was quickly brought under control at 4:01 p.m. and all searches for occupants in the home confirmed that no one was inside. The main body of the fire was extinguished at 4:15 p.m. However, during the overhaul process, looking for hidden, smoldering fires in void spaces, a flare-up occurred in the attic at approximately 7:30 p.m. Fire fighters quickly got water on the fire and extinguished the flare-up at 8:03 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries. The American Red Cross was requested to assist four displaced occupants.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
