On September 29, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:07 p.m. and responded to a chemical release at 2181 Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki with 5 units, including a Hazardous Materials team, staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived at 2:12 p.m., established command and began their investigation to locate the source.
It was reported that a chemical may have been released inside the location, and the initial caller stated his throat was burning. HFD and Emergency Medical Services assessed multiple patients and after HFD personnel deemed the environment safe, the scene was released to the Honolulu Police Department.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
