On October 1, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:11 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Olomana Ridge Trail in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:18 a.m., established command and ascended the trail on foot. Another unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare air operations.
It was reported that a 25-year-old male sustained an injury and could not continue on his own. Air 1 inserted a rescue person to the hiker’s location where he performed a medical assessment and provided basic life support. Air 1 then safely airlifted the hiker to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 12:17 p.m. The two hiking companions accompanying the injured hiker were safely escorted to the trailhead by foot.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported
