On October 3, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:24 p.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore of Kalaeloa with 5 units with 15 personnel. The first unit arrived at the Sand Island Boat ramp to prepare for boat operations .
It was reported that a 21-foot-vessel with two souls aboard encountered engine trouble and were adrift approximately two and one-half miles off of Kalaeloa. HFD’s rescue boat launched and arrived at the ocean scene, making contact with the vessel at 6:24 p.m. Rescue personnel boarded and confirmed that there were no injuries and rigged the disabled vessel for towing. HFD’s rescue boat safely towed the vessel to the Sand Island boat ramp at 8:36 p.m
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
