HIGH-RISE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN AIEA

On October 9, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:23 p.m. and responded to an activated alarm at 99-009 Kalaloa Street in Aiea with one unit staffed with four personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:31 p.m. to find a fire sprinkler activated on the 12th floor with smoke in the hallway. The first arriving unit upgraded the emergency to a building fire, and a total of 9 units staffed with 34 personnel responded to the incident.

While the fire fighters who arrived first on scene continued to investigate, others secured a water supply from a hydrant and initiated an offensive fire attack. Fire fighters arrived at the apartment unit where the smoke was coming from and found combustible material burning on a stove. The fire was fully extinguished with a portable fire extinguisher at 6:01 p.m. All searches for occupants in the structure confirmed that no one was inside.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported and the American Red Cross was notified to assist the seven displaced occupants.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
