On October 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:57 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker on the Makaua Hidden Valley Trail with 7 units staffed with 20 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:06 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 20s became lost and stuck in a precarious location, and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Air 1 inserted a rescue person to the hiker’s location at 7:09 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment and confirmed the hiker was uninjured. Air 1, then, safely airlifted the hiker to the landing zone where medical care was declined.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
