On October 30, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:20 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker off of the Pali Notches Trail in Kailua with 7 units staffed with 22 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:37 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 40s became lost and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel were unable to locate the hiker and the search was suspended due to inclement weather. This morning, the search resumed at first light and the hiker was located by Air 1. Rescue personnel were inserted to the hiker’s location where it was confirmed he was uninjured. The hiker was then airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was declined.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
