On November 2, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:04 p.m. and responded to a lost hiker near the junction of the Crouching Lion and Puu Manamana Trails in Kaaawa with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:11 p.m., established command and gathered information. The next-arriving unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a 28-year-old male was hiking alone since 11:30 a.m. and became lost after going off of the trail. Air 1 located the hiker and inserted HFD rescue personnel to the hiker’s location at 2:47 p.m.. HFD personnel performed a medical assessment to ensure the hiker was uninjured and prepared him for extraction. After hoisting the hiker safely onboard, Air 1 transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where he declined any medical care at 2:59 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injury
