On November 20, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:25 a.m. for an odor of smoke at 2827 Koaniani Way in Manoa. The alarm was upgraded to a building fire and HFD responded with 10 units staffed with 38 personnel, in total. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:28 a.m. to find fire with heavy black smoke in a two-story residential structure.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an offensive fire attack. The fire was brought under control at 3:56 a.m. and fully extinguished at 4:12 a.m. The occupant required medical attention from the Emergency Medical Services. Fire fighters conducted searches of the fire unit to ensure no one else was inside at the time of the fire. The American Red Cross was notified to assist one person displaced by the fire.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with one fire fighter being evaluated at the scene and refused treatment.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
