On December 12, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:37 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Manana Trail with 6 units staffed with 20 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:56 p.m. and established a landing zone at Waiau District Park. The second-arriving unit proceeded to the trail head.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 20s was in distress and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Air 1 arrived at the hiker’s location where they hoisted him into the aircraft and safely airlifted him to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 5:22 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
