On December 28, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:02 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Lanikai Pillbox Trail in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:11 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the search by ground. The next arriving unit secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a female in her 20’s was hiking with a partner and sustained an injury and could not continue on her own. Rescuer personnel on foot arrived at her side at 8:23 a.m., performed an initial medical assessment, and provided basic life support treatment. Air 1 located them, inserted rescue personnel near the hiker’s location then prepared her for extraction. Air 1 transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 9:01 a.m.
