INJURED HIKER RESCUED ON THE KAMAILEUNU RIDGE TRAIL IN WAIANAE

On January 11, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:47 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Kamaileunu Ridge Trail in Waianae with 6 units staffed with 16 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:06 a.m. and secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that two males in their 30s were hiking for approximately five hours when one of them suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Rescue personnel were inserted at the hikers’ location at 10:34 a.m. where a medical assessment was conducted. The hiker was prepared for air extraction and Air 1 safely airlifted both hikers to the nearby landing zone where care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:00 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
