On January 19, 2025, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:28 p.m. for an injured hiker on the Mount Kaala Trail in Waianae and responded with 6 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:48 p.m., secured a landing zone and prepared for air operations.
It was reported that an adult male hiker became injured and was unable to exit the trail on his own. HFD rescue personnel were inserted by Air 1 near the hiker’s location at 4:11 p.m. Rescue personnel made contact with the hiker and performed a medical assessment to confirm there were no injuries. The HFD safely transported the hiker via Air 1 to the landing zone at 4:27 p.m. and transferred the patient to Emergency Medical Services.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
