ABANDONED BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN WAIKIKI

On January 24, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:43 a.m. and responded to a building fire at 2270 Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki with 13 units staffed with 48 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:48 a.m. to find dark smoke emanating from the second floor of an abandoned two-story building.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, initiated an offensive fire attack and completed a search to confirm no occupants were inside the building. The building was boarded up so access was made on the second floor via ground ladders. An adjoining four-story apartment building was also searched for fire extension. There was none.

The fire was declared under control at 11:03 a.m. and fully extinguished at 11:56 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
