On January 24, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:50 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Crater Trail with 7 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:02 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Additional units established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 50s was injured near the top of the trail and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 1:56 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
