DISABLED VESSEL WITH TWO BOATERS RESCUED OUTSIDE WAIKIKI

On January 27, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:24 p.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore of Waikiki with 5 units with 15 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:36 p.m to investigate.

It was reported that a 26 foot boat with two boaters onboard encountered engine problems and were adrift approximately one mile offshore. An HFD Rescue boat arrived at the ocean scene making contact with the vessel and boaters at 6:21 p.m. Rescue personnel boarded the vessel and confirmed that there were no injuries and were able to restart its motor. HFD’s rescue boat escorted the vessel back toward the Ala Wai Harbor when it lost engine power prior to entering the channel. At this point, HFD personnel rigged the vessel for towing. HFD’s Rescue boat safely towed the vessel to the Ala Wai Boat Harbor at 7:08 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
