On February 5, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:08 a.m. for a boater in distress approximately 100 yards outside of Ala Wai Harbor. A total of 6 units, staffed with 17 personnel, responded. The first resource unit arrived at the Ala Wai Harbor at 7:17 a.m. to receive the recovering boater.
The caller reported that a boater was struck by a larger vessel and was paddling back to shore. A bystander, an off-duty fire fighter, was able to coach the injured boater to shore where HFD personnel were able to receive him and perform a medical assessment and provide assistance. The injured boater reported being in the water where he was struck by another boat. The boater was able to enter back into his vessel and paddle back to shore. Medical care was soon transferred to EMS. The injured man’s boat remained in the water for later recovery and salvage.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injury.
