The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) held a promotion ceremony at the Mission Memorial Auditorium,
recognizing the promotion of 56 uniformed and 3 civilian employees.
Managing Director Michael D. Formby, members of the Honolulu Fire Commission, HFD leadership,
family, and friends attended the ceremony in support of the honorees.
“Each promotion represents more than a new rank or responsibility,” said Fire Chief Sheldon K. Hao.
“It reflects the trust placed in our members to uphold the values of this Department, care for our
community, and carry forward the legacy built over 175 years of service.”
The promotions and assignments included:
- Twenty-one Fire Fighter IIs who were promoted to specialized roles, including Hazardous
Materials Technician, Rescue Specialist, Tiller Operators, and Battalion Chief aides. - Eighteen Fire Fighter IIIs who were promoted to operate a fire apparatus, lead crews, and manage
equipment. - Nine Fire Captains who were promoted to supervise fire companies and oversee training, fire
prevention, and dispatch operations. - Two Helicopter Pilots who were promoted to provide aerial support for rescue and fire fighting
operations. - Five Battalion Chiefs who were promoted to oversee operations and management across various
divisions. - One Assistant Chief who was promoted to lead the Department’s Administrative Services
Bureau. - Three civilians who were promoted to Secretary II, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
Technician, and Supervising SCBA Technician positions.
These promotions reflect the HFD’s continued commitment to leadership development,
operational readiness, and public safety across the City and County of Honolulu (City).
