INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM KAʻIWA RIDGE (LANIKAI PILLBOX) TRAIL IN KAILUA

On February 19, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:49 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Kaʻiwa Ridge (Lanikai Pillbox) Trail in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 09:58 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the search by ground.  Other units secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a female in her 60’s was hiking and sustained an injury to her lower leg and could not continue on her own. Rescuers on foot arrived at her side at 10:12 a.m., performed an initial medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. Air 1 was able to arrive to the rescuers and perform the extraction.  Air 1 transported her to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 10:38 a.m.
