INJURED HIKERS RESCUED FROM THE WAAHILA RIDGE TRAIL IN PALOLO

On March 1, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:13 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Waahila Ridge Trail in Palolo with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:17 p.m. and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations. Additional units arrived at the trailhead and ascended the trail on foot.

It was reported that a female in her 70s was hiking on the trail, suffered an injury and could not continue on her own. Air 1 located the hiker and lowered rescue personnel nearby. Upon arrival at the injured hiker’s side at 5:35 p.m., rescue personnel performed an initial medical assessment and provided basic life support treatment, before assisting the injured hiker to an open area and preparing her for extraction. Air 1 hovered over the open area, hoisted the hiker safely onboard, and transported her to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 6:15 p.m.
