On March 13, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 alert at 11:34 a.m. and responded to a rescue alarm for two separate groups of people along the Manoa-Pālolo Stream in Kaimuki with 9 units staffed with 34 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:39 a.m. to find the first group of five people located along the stream bank and received reports of a second group that was further downstream with four people and a dog trapped underneath the Manoa-Pālolo Stream Bridge.
Fire fighters assisted and walked the first group to safety. Rescue personnel arrived at the bridge to set up various rope systems and used rope rescue techniques to carefully bring to safety the four individuals and a dog that were trapped under the bridge. The last individual was extricated at 1:38 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.
