On March 25, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:14 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress above Leihōkū Street in Waiʻanae with 7 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:24 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 50s fell 30 feet, suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 5:57 a.m. and conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 6:27 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
