HIGH-RISE BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN HONOLULU

On April 4, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 7:04 a.m. for a building fire reported at the Makua Alii condominium located at 1541 Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu.  The HFD responded with 7 units and a total of 24 personnel. The first unit arrived at 7:12 a.m. and observed no visible smoke or flames from the exterior of the residential structure.

Fire crews established a water supply and initiated an aggressive interior attack in a unit on the eleventh floor, quickly applying water to contain the fire.  The incident was brought under control and fully extinguished by 7:23 a.m.  One female patient in her 80s was evacuated and EMS was requested. Patient care was transferred to EMS at 7:56 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for, and no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to assist one adult male resident who was displaced as a result of the fire.

An HFD Fire Investigator has been assigned to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to assess the extent of damage. Additional information will be released upon completion of the investigation.
