On April 6, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:17 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress above Leihoku Street in Waianae with 7 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:27 p.m. and the second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker suffered an injury and was unable to descend the trail on his own. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 10:14 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
