On April 1, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:04 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Kolowalu Trail in Mānoa with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:12 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 30s suffered an injury and was unable to safely descend the trail on her own. Personnel on foot made contact with the hiker at 6:35 p.m., conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. The hiker was then safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 7:01 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
